Pair of 1968 Custom Sunn-Style 2x15 Cabinets – 4 JBL D130F Speakers

This listing is for a pair of custom-built, Sunn-style 2×15 speaker cabinets containing four vintage JBL D130F 15-inch speakers—two speakers in each cabinet.

I purchased all four JBL D130F speakers new in 1968 and have owned them ever since. I built the cabinets after taking apart an original Sunn cabinet and carefully measuring its construction. I obtained the hardware directly from Sunn and used the same type of grille cloth. The black leatherette exterior is different from the covering Sunn used.

The cabinets have been in storage for approximately 50 years and include protective covers. I would describe them as being in very good condition for speaker cabinets of this age. They do have honest cosmetic signs of age and use: the leatherette covering is torn in a few places, there is an approximately two-inch tear in the grille cloth on one cabinet, and they are dirty in places. Please examine all the photographs carefully.

I used these cabinets as a PA system several times during the 1970s. With four JBL D130F speakers, they produce remarkably powerful, clean sound.

The camera’s automatic gain control prevents the recording from conveying their true volume. However, you can see me speaking while my voice cannot be heard because the speakers are drowning it out. The video should still give you an idea of their clarity and confirms that all four speakers are working.
