I am offering a 1974 Fender Precision Bass for sale. I purchased this bass at the Arlington Guitar Show in Arlington, Texas in October 2008, and it has been kept in a clean, smoke-free studio since that time. This bass appears to be (virtually) 100% original and is in very good condition.

The neck is straight and the truss rod works properly. Currently strung with a DR Hi-Beam 45 - 105 set. Action is set reasonably low and intonation is properly set. That said, this bass is 52 years old and could benefit from having the frets leveled and crowned (or Plek'd) for optimal playability. The frets appear to be completely original. Two different luthiers have recently confirmed that the frets can be leveled and that a re-fret is not necessary.

The original potentiometers are clean and work as expected. The date code on the pots is 7343 - meaning they were manufactured in the 43rd week of 1973. The original pickup sounds strong.

The original pickup foam compressed and has been replaced with equivalent new pickup foam. This is the only caveat to originality that I can detect. The original pickup foam will be included in the case.

Weight of the bass alone (with the bridge and pickup covers installed) is 9 lbs, 1 oz. Weight with the covers removed is 8lbs, 13 oz.

This bass has a B-size neck, which measures 1-5/8 inch at the nut.

Full disclosure of known issues - all of which were present when I purchased the bass and remain unchanged:

1. There is a hairline crack in the pickguard at the screw that is closest to the jack.

2. There is a small worn-through area in the paint on the lower bout, near the lower strap button. The bass has some small dings and scratches in the headstock and the body - but fewer than I would expect, considering its age. This bass has obviously been played a lot; it has also been taken care of.

3. The D-G pickup coil sits at a tilt toward the bridge. This appears to be due to the way the pickup is screwed into the route. This should be an easy fix - but due to the originality of the bass, I am making no modifications. It does not affect sound or playability.

The original case is in overall fair to good condition. Only the center latch works; both of the other latches are broken. If all latches were working, I would rate the case in very good condition.

I can provide additional photos showing the disassembly of this bass upon request. Photos included will show the pickup, pots, jack, wiring, control cavity, neck pocket, and case in full detail.

Thanks for considering!
