The ultimate grail collectible guitar pedal for sale on the internet! I’ve owned dozens of these but never ever have I seen one in such incredible condition both inside and out. A time capsule in a sea of rusty, scratched up big body EHX EM‘s. This unicorn pedal not only looks and sounds unreal but it even comes with the original box, product catalog, warranty card and instruction pamphlet from the early 70’s. I have no real desire to sell this one to be honest. The last clean one on reverb sold by me for $1500 with no box or paperwork and it wasn’t even as clean as this one. Furthermore I was told it has lived its life inside this box so when I tested it, I was overjoyed to hear all components functioning like new, which is unheard of.

The legendary reticon SAD chip sells for 200-400 alone if you can even find one (shown installed in the PCB in this pedal). But when they‘ve never been used, they do something that none of these other pedals can do. They allow the pedal to over drive itself into isolation when the rate knob is cranked all the way up. I’ve owned a dozen of these and I’ve never had one been able to do this, though I’ve read about it many times. if you read the original manual, it talks about this overdrive feature and reminds the user that this is perfectly normal and was intended from the original designer that Mike Matthews employed during its initial development.

There are four small variable capacitors inside with tiny flathead screw pots. I opened the unit up and dialed it back a tiny bit, so it operates as expected, but if I were you, and you want that crazy wild sound that some guitarists are searching for, open the box and look at the bottom left black round variable capacitor, and turn the flathead screw a quarter turn to the left and it will give you a squealing outer space sound that you may have heard on some crazy records from the 70s and 80s. Once the components inside these old boxes begin to age as they heat up and cool off each time they’re turned on, they loose their full strength, and loose this ability but this particular unit seems to be NOS and capable of some wildly deep flanging. The other two I have here are far tamer. This one can do tame (pedal is extremely noiseless too) but can also get nuts.

One thing’s for sure, you will probably never see a complete original with all original packaging in the box like this, ever again for sale. Lastly, I’ve never seen one of these with green white and purple potentiometer shafts either, this is extremely unique (shown in pics). The Dirt Road Special Amp EHX made had red and white pot shafts but this is unique and definitely factory original, making this like an error baseball card in both rarity and collectibility.

Any questions please ask, thanks for looking.
