Gibson Les Paul Heritage 80 Standard 1982
At the end of the 1970s, Gibson was shaken out of its slumber by the success of Far Eastern replicas of its own Les Paul models from the late 1950s. However, it was the Japanese competition from Tokai that initially reaped the profits with their “Reborn Old” and “Love Rock” models. They had recognized even before the Americans that there was a market for these guitars and scored a coup with incredibly good and exact copies of the originals.
With the “80 Heritage” series – built from 1980 to 1982 – the competition-driven mother of the coveted vintage Paulas finally revived its own guitar models for the first time. These precursors to the Custom Shop Historic and Reissue series are now sought-after collector's items.
Here is an exceptionally beautiful Standard 80 in excellent original condition with the classic components:
Solid mahogany body with a strikingly patterned “Cherry Sunburst” maple top.
Mahogany neck with a comfortable, not too thick profile – roughly equivalent to the 60s “Slim Taper” profile.
Rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium frets and encapsulated Grover tuners.
Naturally equipped with the original, wonderfully sounding Tim Shaw humbucker pickups.
One small drawback is the considerable weight of 5 kg. Of course, nothing here is “chambered or weight-relieved.” A wide guitar strap provides relief.
Comes exactly as pictured in the original Gibson case—even the original manual and other accompanying documents are still included.
The guitar is in good condition for its age, with minor signs of wear and play—see pictures.
