Time Capsule !!!
Beautiful Martin Committee 3 "The Martin" alto saxophone in phenomenal condition. Everything looks original, pads are soft and supple, finish is 98%, plays great. The pads LOOK original but are in such good shape that I guess they are either original pads well kept (I have some horns with 100 year old pads in good shape) or an overhaul was done in the distant past with excellent reproductions. Looks like there is one very good resolder on the B-Bb key guard post. The included case is also in excellent condition, all the latches work well. The serial number puts this horn at 1954.
I know I will get comments that this must be a relac. I've included pics so you can see the engraving up close - it is clean and deep, like the factory. IF this was ever relacquered it is the best relac I've ever seen with no buffing. The few little corroded spots lead me to believe this is either original lacquer or maybe came from the factory unlacquered and was lacquered many years ago. However I had a Committee 1 that was just this pristine and was definitely NOT a relac. I don't think this is either.....it's just a beautiful, well kept closet horn.
