Without the Hawaiian music craze of the 1920s and early 1930s, it's safe to say the modern steel-string acoustic guitar wouldn't exist. This is the connection Chris Martin IV discovered while studying the history of Hawaiian music and its importance to the innovation and success of Martin Guitar. The guitars built to accompany this craze led to the "Golden Age" models we know and love today, like the iconic Dreadnought. Inspired by vintage models of the era, the new Martin O'ahu™ HG-28 pays homage to this period: an approachable body shape for the Martin line, featuring solid flamed Hawaiian koa back and sides and a solid spruce top for a perfectly balanced tone. Aside from its aesthetics, anyone who picks up this guitar will immediately notice its comfort. Like a new friend. Making its debut in the Martin O'ahu family, the Martin O'ahu HG-28 is a smaller dreadnought with a 14-fret, sloping neck with a 000-deep scale length, ideal for guitarists who want the dreadnought sound in a more comfortable format. Its short-scale satin-finished neck, with its Golden Era modified low oval profile, offers a smooth and comfortable playing experience. The Martin O'ahu HG-28 plays easily thanks to its low action and is perfectly suited to standard tuning or one of the many open-finger tunings, such as open G, widely used in Hawaiian guitars. Its wide herringbone finish and antique white binding give it a vintage charm, reminiscent of Martin's early Hawaiian guitars. With the Martin O'ahu HG-28, Martin is ready to write a new page in musical history, this time in your hands.
