The "Step Function" Explained
On the Zoom Player 3000, the term "step function" typically refers to use of the FUNCTION switch (sometimes labeled “STEP” on documentation) to control real-time modulation (RTM) or activate certain features.
How it works: While playing, pressing and holding the FUNCTION switch activates the step function mode. This allows certain effect parameters or volume levels to be changed gradually in real time. The RTM target parameters—such as delay time, modulation depth, etc.—are varied as long as the switch is held down, enabling dynamic changes without needing additional pedals
