The Godin A12 is the 12-string version of the popular A6 acoustic/electric. Like the 6-string, the A12 sounds acoustic, but has the playing feel of an electric. It is a joy to play and is another example of Godin's knack for building quality stringed instruments that offer utility and genre-crossing capability.

This is an "SF" model, which means that it has a slight cosmetic blemish. Godin is very picky and the casual observer often will never notice, but this means we can pass the savings on to you! Comes with a full new guitar warranty. Photos are of the ac=tual

The Godin A12 features the following construction and components:

  • Solid Cedar top with chambered maple back
  • Gloss piano black finish
  • Godin EPM under saddle bridge transducer with sliders for active treble, mid, and bass
  • 25.5" scale rock maple neck with Richlite fingerboard
  • TUSQ saddle and nut, Richlite bridge
  • Schaller strap lock buttons
  • Deluxe Godin padded gig bag
  • Made in Canada

The Godin A12 is an amazing value and a great addition for any player looking to expand their sound. Like the A6, it is a perfect companion for bands who don't want to deal with using a true acoustic on a loud stage. It sounds authentic, but it never feeds back and is comfortable to play all night long.

The bridge piezo is bright and crisp sounding, but largely devoid of piezo crackle and quack. Tested through our Traynor acoustic amplifier it sounded chimey and clean, and unless you are a hardcore folkie the A12 would easily hold its own in most performing situations. With a little signal conditioning or good acoustic preamp, you could easily go direct into a PA system or mixing board. You can't help but smile when you play a 12-string. Single line licks have a cool "sitar" vibe to them, and big chords ring with incredible dynamics. Playing a 12-string is an refreshing experience, and if you are a fan of the Byrds, Beatles, Supertramp or even Zeppelin, a 12-string is a must-have.

At home the Godin A12 is great for just sitting around, songwriting, or adding a new dimension to your recordings. While unplugged it's certainly not as full sounding as a true acoustic, it puts out a reasonable amount of volume for practice. The slim body is easy to hold, and the Godin electric-style neck has light action and is easy on the fingertips. At less than 8 pounds it travels easily and takes up far less space than a traditional acoustic.

The Godin A12 is certainly unique, and for the singer-songwriter, composer or performer it fills a critical gap at a reasonable price. Whether your are a gigging musician or just like to play, the Godin A12 offers everyone the chance to explore the 12-string world.
