Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a classic and rarer 1960's era University Sound 5050 model dynamic cardioid microphone that looks like nothing else being sold at that time. The University Sound 5050 was perfect for singing and broadcasting as it was designed and has a very modern midcentuey vibe. It was a high quality microphone with excellent uni-directional characteristics and came with the satin chrome finish but it should be noted that this mic has been tested and has a dead element so it should be used for display, prop or repair purposes only. it does come with the period Atlas DS14 desk stand shown in which to display. A very cool piece that will draw attention anywhere it's displayed.

University Sound was an American company that sold many quality mics from the 1960's up until the late 90's I believe and they sold many variant of Electro Voice microphones such as the 664A and 660 models but tUniversity Sound also designed and built many of their own as well and the 5050 was one of them. It's very attractive design with a touch of class.

University also sold this very same model as the 5020 but that mic had no built in pistol grip. It was like your standard stick mic that was intended to be placed in an actually mic clip.

You'll notice that this mic has the built in lower pistol grip which all the mic companies phased out in the late 1970's but this style of mic was very popular starting in the early 1950's. That lower pistol grip allowed you to screw the mic onto any stand and had the built in on / off switch. It also acted as a mic clip giving you the ability to tilt the mics head up and down as needed.

You'll notice that the mic is in very good physical condition overall. The stain chromes glows and the University Sound label looks great and completely legible. The globe on the mic has a very subtle dent that you might be able to see but it's free of tarnish or odors. There is some fine pitting on the barrel and on both sides of the lower pistol grip. Otherwise the rest of the mic looks very nice. The on / off switch works just as it should and the threading on the cable attachment and for the stand is perfect.

 Mic is an easy 7 + cosmetically on a scale of 1 - 10.

The mic takes an older 3 pin type screw on cable to operate though none is included. The stand shown is included and used to display this mic with.

The stand is a period 1960's era Atlas DS-14 "boomerang" model made of cast iron and comes with the short 3 inch chrome riser. It compliment the 505 very nicely and makes for a very stable platform. It shows a little less wear than the mic and has the stock black painted finish.

The DS-14 has strong midcentury vibes as well and the two just go together well. The stand has 3 new felt pads on the bottom and the chrome riser shows almost no wear. please let the detailed pics be your guide. With the mic and stand the height is appx 12 1/2 inches tall with the mic raised upwards. It can be lowered of course.

This rarer 5050 with stand will make an excellent accent piece and draw attention anywhere it's displayed.

As with all my other vintage microphones...
