What makes the “Kinman-style” different than our other Adjustable Treble Bleed circuits is that it features in-series circuitry. This helps with certain guitar setups that have issues with the volume sweep with the parallel circuitry of the Adjustable Treble Bleed circuits.
If you have been having issues with the volume sweep with the treble bleed circuit you currently have installed, you should try the “Kinman-style.”
The “Kinman-style” treble bleed circuit will help with retaining of high frequencies at lower volumes. The circuit will also provide a more even tone and better overall sound to a guitar.
Why Kinman is the preference for single coils
The "Kinman" method refers to a specific wiring style where a capacitor and resistor are wired in series. This differs from the "Duncan" method (parallel) or the "Simple" method (cap only).
- Preserves the Volume Taper: The primary reason players prefer Kinman for Strats is that it maintains a natural volume sweep. Parallel circuits often make the volume drop too suddenly or turn the pot into more of an "on/off" switch.
- Avoids "Ice-Pick" Treble: At very low volumes, a simple capacitor can make a Strat sound overly thin or "plinky." The series resistor in a Kinman circuit acts as a "speed limit," smoothing out the high-end so the guitar sounds consistent and natural from 1 to 10.
- The "Sweet Spot" Frequency: For standard Strat pickups, the 1,105 Hz (Purple) or 1,061 Hz (Green) frequencies are the most common preferences because they match the natural resonance of single coils without adding harshness.
The circuit includes a built-in adjustable trimmer for tuning the bleed circuit.
Easy installation by soldering hookup wires to the Input and Output pads on the board .
The Boffin FX treble bleed circuit has a peel-and-stick adhesive on the bottom for seamless installation.
This version is ideal for low output pickups both single coil and humbucker. Ideal for neck pickups.
Selecting an Adjustable Treble Bleed Circuit:
Green - low output pickups both single coil and humbucker. Ideal for neck pickups.
Purple - The classic Kinman frequency cutoff 1,105.2 Hz. Can be used for low output and vintage output pickups.
Blue - Vintage humbuckers under 10k. Can be used for neck pickups.
Black - High output bridge pickups. Recommended for single coil Telecasters.
