I am Finally Letting this one go. The last piece of a very large lot I bought way back in 2003 or so.
A Marantz Model 30 Stereo Amplifier
Rated at 60 Watts RMS Per Channel - The name of the product is a bit confusing - leading to the impression that this is a 30 watt amp. it is not
The exact title was
Marantz Model Thirty Console Amplifier
Serial Number of this unit is 1468
A few years ago I sent it out to Cliff Schecht of
Reclaimed Audio Vintage Audio Repair/Restoration
(He has a shop right here on Reverb as well)
Who went through it and did a restoration which I was quite pleased with. Great sounding amplifier and he tested it at 71 Watts RMS Per Channel. the cost of the restoration was around $500. Plus the back and forth shipping from New York to Texas
I believe this unit was made in the USA and preceded the model 1200 amplifier that was the first series that went to Japan - label Engineered in USA - Built in Japan.
This one simply says "Sun Valley" on the label on the back - so I'm not positive.
Regardless - it's a wonderful amplifier. Time for someone else to enjoy it.
It's also labelled "patent Pending) so it's a real early piece.
A Historical Piece for Certain !!
A few notes - it should be well ventilated - Thermal shut down is working. My bad bc I stacked stuff in too. Cools off and operates fine in normal/ warm temperatures.
These had weak power switches and was giving me grief - so I simply jumped out the power switch and powered it up and down externally. A Long time ago - when I had better vision - I rebuilt the power switch but its inherent design was known to arc and it's just better this way. The original switch is in place so cosmetically it's still accurate.
There are a few scratches on the top cover - otherwise the face looks good - please take a look at all the pictures as they tell the entire cosmetic story.
I left the cheapish speaker spring contacts intact. I did have intentions of changing them out to better binding post types - bot historically accurate so If you so desire - it's as you see it.
This has provisions for two turntables - also the "tape head" inputs aren't that useful - they have no EQ - this is for those days when reel decks had no preamps I Imagine - I know not a lot - I just used a digital tuner - one turntable - my CD Player or Reel top Reel went into the AUX inputs. Comes with the original dummy caps as I believe the tape head inputs can pick up noise
These days - I just need a simple receiver and found myself a nice Pioneer SX-737 that is plenty of power for me and a nice visaual vibe - so I'm settled on that -
I will be listing some of my other person favorites soon so please follow my shop.
The unit comes with the original Preamp - to main amp jumpers as shown
You'll also get the Original Owner's manual and Service manual
