Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a classic 1st generation (1950's era) Electro Voice 664 dynamic cardioid microphone variant which was sold under license by The DuKane Corporation. Often referred to as "The Buchanan Hammer" salesman would demonstrate it's toughness and reliability by pounding nails into a piece wood with the mic then hooking it up to show that it would still work without issue. This microphone was not used as a hammer...obviously but shows typical lite wear from use over the decades. It comes with a cast iron desk stand in which to display.

It should be noted right away that though the mic is 100% complete it has been tested but the element is dead. This mic should be used for display, prop or repair purposes only.

DuKane sold several E.V mics with their name badges during the 1950's and 60's this was common practice and so while the E.V 664 is quite common these DuKane 7A160 models are a bit rarer to come by.

Pic # 3 shows an old E.V data sheet with all the basic characteristics of this mic. You can always make a copy of this to keep with the mic.

The 664 / 7A160 was a revolutionary, high quality studio mic being tough, reliable, great sounding and having a uni-directional pattern only picking up what was directly in front of the microphone cancelling out all background noise. It was the standard for all other mics of it's era and sounds as good as most quality mics built today if the 664 is in good working order. Again, this is a non-working mic though 100% complete.

Buyers beware...these chromed bodies DO NOT polish out. If there is pitting, scratches or engravings they do not come out. Don't be fooled thinking they will look like new once the damage is done as many sellers are claiming.

Again, the polished chrome body on this 664 shows lite wear in the form of a few scuff marks and a few scratches here and there. The 7A160 label looks very nice with zero wear and completely legible. I didn't realize it was dirty until I saw the close up pics I took so I took the badge off and cleaned it properly. You'll notice how much nicer it looks when you get it. The front screen is free of odors or dents but there is very subtle tarnish. The on / off switch works perfect as well.

The joint mechanism works perfectly with plenty of tension and it's adjustable via side screw. The on / off switch was cleaned and works just as it should and slides smoothly. The threading for the cable and stand are perfect...nothing stripped or fractured.

 I would rate this mic a conservative 8 physically speaking on a scale of 1 - 10.

There is a vintage 1980's cast iron stand that is included that makes a very stable platform for this top heavy microphone. It shows just lite wear on the painted base and the chrome riser shows lite wear. It has all 3 rubber pads on the bottom. This was is a Chinese model that's basically a replica of the Atlas DS-5 model stand.

The mic with stand is appx 6 inches wide X 14 inches tall if raised completely upright.

The mic and stand will draw attention just about anywhere it's displayed.

The 7A160 will screw onto any desk or floor stand you choose but again, the stand shown is provided.

As with all my other vintage microphones...

I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. If you don't intend on buying this...do not commit to buy please. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping.
