1982 Vintage Maxon OD-9 (Same as Ibanez TS-9)
————————————————
This is an authentic 1982 Maxon OD-9, essentially the domestic Japanese version of the Ibanez TS-9 from that era. The only technical difference between the two is that the TS-9 uses a buffered bypass, while the OD-9 features true bypass. Generally speaking, the Maxon OD-9 is considered to have a slightly more transparent and smoother tone.
Given that Ibanez is more widely recognized by players around the world, opting for a first-year Maxon is a much more budget-friendly choice without sacrificing tone or quality.
A similar trend can be seen with the TS-808 narrow box and the Maxon OD-808. Despite being virtually identical units (and in some cases, Maxon even using sturdier components and build quality), the first-year Ibanez versions tend to be overpriced on the international market.
This OD-9 is equipped with the legendary JRC4558D chip, and the manufacturing year can be clearly identified via the capacitor date codes shown in the attached photos. All functions are working perfectly—the knobs turn smoothly with no scratchy noise, the footswitch is responsive, and as for the tone, I won’t oversell it—I’ll just say: if you love the TS-9 but have only tried the later reissues, you owe it to yourself to experience this one.
