Gibson Custom Shop 1959 ES-335 Blonde Dot Neck
2020 NAMM Show Guitar – Historic Makeovers Lacquer and Aging
This is a truly unique guitar. It was the 2020 Winter NAMM Show guitar that the Gibson Custom Shop displayed in their NAMM booth that year (See picture). I bought it new. It has all the latest Gibson Custom Shop features including hide glue construction, nylon nut, paper-in-oil caps, Custom Buckers, etc., and I wanted it to have some light lacquer checking. So I sent it directly to Kim Lafleur at Historic Makeovers to be sprayed with historically correct nitrocellulose lacquer (with no plasticizers) and then very lightly aged. The aging would be considered “Ultra-Light” exactly like the Gibson Murphy Lab does with their "Ultra-Light" aging process. If you’re familiar with Kim’s work at Historic Makeovers, you know he has one of the best shops in the country to do this kind of work and, in case you're not aware, Kim has passed away since this work was done.
The guitar is truly beautiful to begin with, which is why Gibson chose to show if off at the NAMM show, and then Kim’s application of the correct nitro lacquer and aging made it perfect. It includes all the paperwork, original hard shell case and case candy. Setup is top notch. It plays beautifully and weighs 7 lbs., 11 oz.
