☆Vintage 1950s NHK Toshiba Type G Ribbon Microphone - RCA 77-DX Style Original MIJ Japan
- Sounds great
- Used by the NHK Broadcast Company in Japan, Original Call Signs used by NHK are missing but they would have slid on the front and back
- Silk screens appear to be in great shape
- Comes with Original Hard Case that is not pictured but expect it to be quite worn
For sale is the first version of the Toshiba Type G which features a cardioid polar pattern and has no high pass filter unlike the later variants. The body on these had a section on both the front and back which lets you slide a call sign. This Type G was used by NHK, but unfortunately their call signs were missing and likely lost during transport. Due to it being made for NHK, it was built to a higher standard with a better transformer so that may be an attractive point to consider.
Besides that, the Type G has a nice smooth response, perfect for vocals, and has a wonderful balance overall. This microphone does have quite a bit of wear, but luckily it is purely cosmetic, since these mics were built like tanks. For cardioid use, the Type G easily rivals and can beat the RCA 77, it truly sounds that good. Toshiba was no slouch when it came to building high quality microphones, and I wish they still did.
