Vintage Tone, 4.9k-ish Ohms (deceptively low reading), Alnico 5 Rods

The "Brimstone+" Hand wound Tele Neck by Down South Guitars is one part of the Down South Guitars "Fire and Brimstone" Hand-wound Tele set. Based on an early-1950's design, this particular Neck is a plus model, meaning slightly overwound and measures in at a deceptively low 4.9 K(ish) ohms (the standard Down South Brimstone measures up at about 4.4 K(ish) Ohms, but because this design uses a thicker copper wire than what most people traditionally use for winding Tele Necks with, the reading seems lower than its output measures. If I used the industry standard sized wire for this pickup, it would most likely measure in the 6.5k - 7k ohms range, just to give you a better idea of the output level). The fully-charged Alnico 5 rod magnets residing in this neck allows a wealth of twang and top-end, surprising for a Tele-style neck. Perfect for backgrounds or rhythm playing or brightening up a darker sounding guitar. Hollow, almost haunting mids and thick presence, accompanied by a massive bass signal makes for the perfect pair to the Fire or Fire+ Bridge. Like a cool summer afternoon, the hand-wound warmth and twangy tone will simply wash over you.

A philips screwdriver will serve you well during the installation process because keeping the pickup height low under the strings sounds like a hardcore country guitarist's dream. Super vintage-y tone with massive beef on the bass end, but with enough presence and twang to really be remembered. Raising the pickup height to about half-way between the guitar body and the strings will sound like a much beefier heavy blues or classic rock tonality. I can't recommend any closer than that simply because of the sheer amount of low end with be pretty wooly. You can, but it becomes really woofy to my ear too close to the strings.

If you want a serious and faithful vintage-output stunner of a Tele neck or if you play or write in the country, blues, or classic rock neighborhood, don't look any further! One more thing, I am well aware there is no cover. I don't recommend Tele neck covers, specifically, because this model of pickup is make to be both twangy and meaty in the low end, and quite frankly, the cover ruins both of those sonic markers. Unless you are a diehard at looking, as in having the appearance, that a certain color of neck cover brings, I sincerely and strongly urge you to give the coverless neck a go. I also saved you 30 bucks in the operating cost of adding a metal cover to the list of parts I'd have to charge. Make this beauty an addition to your collection and don't let this one pass you by!
