Constructed of premium materials, the 400 sports a solid book matched tone bar braced spruce top, a solid ebony fingerboard, and deluxe multi-ply binding throughout. An affectionate tribute to Gretsch history, the 400 incorporates design elements from the 30's to the 60's, including the famous 'Synchronized' compensated stairstep bridge, the 'Chromatic' harp-shaped tailpiece, the 'Filter 'Tron' humbucking pickup, pearl 'hump' inlays, and of course, the signature 'Cat-Eye' soundholes.
