Who is Noble Guitars? These guitars were made for the Strum and Drum Company out of Chicago. They were made by Fuji-Gen Gakki of Japan. This company made many other Japanese branded guitars like Apollo, Avalon, Electra, Greco, St George and Zim-Gar. All excellent made and branded guitars...
A beautiful guitar that is so dark brown, I originally thought it was black. Under the studio lights, you can clearly see its a really cool unusual brown shade. Check those pics!
Here's some more info we found on these cool guitars...
Norma was Strum & Drum’s major brand. Many were pretty pedestrian solidbody and hollowbody electrics that are interesting as period artifacts, and little else. Of special interest were their sparkle-finished guitars, which are about as cool as it gets with ‘60s Japanese guitars.
In 1966, Norm Sackheim’s son Ron bought the rights to Don Noble’s instrument line. Noble was a prominent Chicago-area accordionist who sold imported accordions and guitars. Some Noble guitars made by Wandré Pioli in Italy appeared, but in ’67 the line was cancelled and the Noble name was added to the Strum & Drum stable.
While all this was transpiring, the Ventures were becoming guitar gods in Japan, and Japanese makers began to build Mosrite “copies.” Long story short, the Noble brand re-appeared on some Mosrite copies sold by Strum & Drum, including this 1968 copy of a Mosrite Combo hollowbody, The Noble Model No. EG 686-2HT.
I’m no Mosrite expert but I own a Combo and this copy isn’t too far off in terms of quality. Mosrites weren’t that great. And, it’s pretty historically interesting. Note the nifty “N” fingerboard inlays and real German-carve top. This guitar was the only Noble model, the only Strum & Drum Mosrite copy, and was only available until late 1969, maybe into 1970. Ironically, The Noble Mosrite Combo copy is probably as rare if not rarer than a genuine Mosrite. Such a world; go figure.
This cool Guitar plays as good as it looks. Jeff the Tech put a new set of strings on it and has it playing with awesome low action. He reworked the zero fret as the previous owner had it all bunged up. It wassn't straight. Jeff removed the offending fret, reworked the fret area and its not correct. See pics 9 and 10. The are also some numbers etched into the neck plate that don't belong there. From a previous owner. See pic 12.
Huge sound out of this guitar. The semi hollow body is not a light weight... It weighs 8 lbs 10 ozs. It must have a wood center piece to give it all that weight. It has a 24 1/2 inch scale neck and the nut measures 1 11/16 inches... Single coil Japan pickups and it packs a wallop!!
All original. This model has the cool Pickguard with no end breaks. It looks a lot like a lot of Mosrites did. It has a modified German Curve on the body also a lot like the Mosrites. The bridge is super nice for intonation and the whammy tailpiece is very responsive. The guitar is in great shape ..Just superficial things like a few dings and scratches. Otherwise, it's in excellent shape.
No original case came with it and with the 15 1/2 inch lower bout going to the 14 1/2 inch upper bout, hard to find a hard case to fit. We are sending it with a nice used gigbag. It fits the guitar great and will work until you find a better case option.
Now this guitar is uber cool but old and vintage so it is sold as-is no returns..Thanks for respecting that!
