Vintage 1953 Shure 315 ribbon bi-directional microphone Low Z w accessories 315S 330 SM33 333
Hello and welcome to the House of Chrome.
You are looking at a somewhat rare and desirable early Shure Brothers 315 model Ribbon microphone that was manufactured in Chicago, ILL during 1953. The 315 model was first introduced in 1951 I believe and had a good 20 year run before being discontinued. The 315 only changed design slightly in 1960 with the revamped lower pistol grip but the top head never changed. This beautiful looking microphone comes with the longer cable in which to operate, cables adapters and the mic case in which to store.
It should be noted right away that the mic has been both cleaned and tested. The mic has a strong 100% signal that can be used for any live event. The mic is set at low impedance and the cable has the Low Z connector which is also balanced. I'm also providing two additional cable adapters so that you can use the cable on any audio equipment you might happen to have.
Pic # 2 is of an old Shure mic catalog I have showing the 315 and it's basic characteristics. This was an affordable studio microphone that could be used for singing and broadcasting. The mic is bi-directional in nature picking up noise from both the front and rear. It was multi impedance as well with an adjustable switch in the rear of the mic giving you high, medium and low impedance depending on the type of audio gear you were using.
Pic # 3 shows Jerry Lee Lewis using this very model mic while performing live.
This Shure 315 has the satin chrome finish with an all metal construction making the mic quite rugged in nature.
This mic is 100% complete inside and out and is in pretty dang nice physical condition despite being 70 years old.
The finish shows almost no wear as seen in the pictures provided. There are no engravings, dents or deep scratches. Just some very tiny pitting here and there. Impossible to see even from a couple feet away. The joint mechanism holds strong like it should and can be tightened as needed with a screw driver. The red Shure logo looks great as does the black label and it's completely legible. The impedance switch on the rear works just as it should. The impedance cover slides open allowing you to change the impedance. The cover does show lite wear but works great. This will make a very fine example if you are a singer or broadcaster and the mic has a smooth warm tone as you would expect from any quality ribbon mic. For best results you want to be about 3 inches away from the mic.
The threading for the stand is perfect as is for the cable.
You'll notice that there is a older 3 pin screw on cable. Same as used on the Shure 55 and 55S model mics. The cable is appx 5 long. It's in perfect condition. Again, just leave the short cable on the mic and use a longer XLR cable for additional length.
I'm providing the Switchcraft female XLR to female XLR adapter as well as the male Switchcraft XLR to male 1/4 inch end connector. These two additional connectors will come in handy at some point.
The original (hard to find) Shure 315 case is also included and a great place to store the mic when not in actual use. It has a decent brown vinyl exterior with a purple felt interior. The case does show wear but it's a great place to store the mic away in to keep safe and sound. The case also has a locking mechanism for the top lid. A great package deal.
These 315 mics are getting very hard to come by these days and continue to increase in value as the years go by. You'll be hard pressed to find a nicer example.
