Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a rare and very nice working microphone from the 70's era that would be great for any studio use involving broadcasting or singing and happens to be one of the best snare mics around. It comes with the short cable, Shure S37A desk stand and the new Shure outer pop filter for improved sound quality.

The mic is a quality Shure 545SH model dynamic cardioid microphone with the two tone black and satin chrome finish with excellent uni-directional characteristics. An obscure variant of the 545 series and set at low impedance having a warm, smooth tone with just the right amount of bass and superb frequency response.

Pic # 2 is from an old 1970's era catalog showing this very model along with the other 545 variants being sold at that particular time.

This 545SH was sold during the 1970's to late 1980's before being discontinued and has the unique lower pistol grip with the on / off switch and standard XLR cable attachment. These early examples were made in the USA but eventually in the 1980's Shure moved the manufacturing to Mexico and eventually the 545SH was made in Mexico before being discontinued.

These mics are just hard to find anymore. The last one I had to offer was a couple years ago and I just got a few in lately.

These early American made 545SH models are very desirable and were basically an SM57 with the chrome finish. This 545SH was basically the last generation 545S. Shure discontinued the 545S model in 1977 doing away with the older 4 pin type connection. The 545SH took it's place and Shure sold the 545SH with the black painted lower pistol grip giving it a more aggressive bold design overall.

I do replace the inner foam pop filters in these mics as they are always shot. It's important to do that to any older 545, 545S or SM57. The new foam I install will last another 50 years. As you can see in pic # 4 I'm including a brand new Shure exterior pop filter that fits the mic like a glove and adds an extra layer of sound performance that really blocks out any un wanted "pops" and other distortion you might encounter while singing and broadcasting. It fits via a small screw for tension and can be removed in seconds if needed. It really gives the mic an aggressive look as well.

The mic has been cleaned and everything is tight. Nothing loose or unfinished.

As you you can see this example is quite beautiful showing an absolute minimum of cosmetic wear. It's a real gem. No pitting, dents, deep scratches or fractures. The satin chrome glows and the black lower pistol grip shows just a few subtle scuff marks as does the black upper cartridge. The front screen is free of tarnish, dents or odors. The joint mechanism works perfectly allowing a good degree of tilt up and down. The Shure label looks perfect and completely legible. On / off switch works perfectly as well.

I cleaned the XLR pins to ensure a perfect signal once the cable is attached. You won't find a nicer example of a 545SH if you can even find one at all? I'd rate the true cosmetic condition of this mic a 9 on a scale of 1 - 10.

The mic takes a standard XLR type microphone cable and one is included. It's a short 6 inch type with two quality Switchcraft XLR connector. The cable is soft, pliable and in excellent condition. it runs down through the stand and is well secured via a cable clamp. The short cable will allow you to attach any longer XLR cable of choice as an extension.

The period Shure S37A desk stand is also included.

Pic # 2 shows this very model as well as a few others and it makes for a very stable platform with it's low wide stance. It's very lite weight as well being made of aluminum and has a stock gun metal grey finish that in very nice overall condition. No dents or fractures. The stand is almost as nice as the mic itself and the 4 rubber pads on the bottom are in excellent condition.

The stand comes with a brass mounting bolt to keep the mic securely attached to the stand.

The dimensions with the mic and stand are appx 11 inches tall X 4 inches wide X 6 inches deep and the stand with mic is a very handsome combo. This 545SH model mic will only continue to rise in value as the years go by due to tone, condition and rarity.

If you demand an excellent working 545SH to use frequently...this is your mic.

As with all my vintage microphones...
