Vintage 1960's Shure 315S / 315 bi-directional ribbon microphone w accessories 330 333 SM33
Hello and welcome to the House of Chrome.
You are looking at a somewhat rare and desirable early Shure Brothers 315S model Ribbon microphone that was manufactured in Evanston, ILL during the 1960's. The 315 model was first introduced in 1951 I believe and had a good 20 year run before being discontinued. The 315 only changed design slightly in 1960 with the revamped lower pistol grip but the top head never changed. This beautiful looking microphone comes with the short cable in which to operate and the mic case in which to store.
This 315S model is basically just an upgraded 315 with the on / off switch. This is the 2nd generation 315 series with the slightly newer lower pistol grip which Shure incorporated onto all of their new models starting in 1960.
It should be noted right away that the mic has been both cleaned and tested. The mic has a strong 100% signal that can be used for any live event. The mic is set at low impedance and the cable has the Low Z connector which also balanced. Simply use any longer XLR to XLR cable to your audio equipment as an extension cable and you are in business.
Pic # 2 is of an old Shure mic catalog I have showing the 315 and it's basic characteristics. This was an affordable studio microphone that could be used for singing and broadcasting. The mic is bi-directional in nature picking up noise from both the front and rear. It was multi impedance as well with an adjustable switch in the rear of the mic giving you high, medium and low impedance depending on the type of audio gear you were using.
Pic # 3 shows Jerry Lee Lewis using this very model mic while performing live.
This Shure 315 has the satin chrome finish with an all metal construction making the mic quite rugged in nature.
This mic is 100% complete inside and out and is in pretty dang nice physical condition despite being 60 years old.
The finish shows extremely lite wear as seen in the pictures provided. There are no engravings, dents or deep scratches. There is a very subtle ding on the rear screen of the mics head which is impossible to see even from a couple feet away. The joint mechanism holds strong like it should and can be tightened as needed with a screw driver. The Shure logo looks great as does the lower label and it's completely legible. The impedance switch on the rear works just as it should. The impedance cover slides open allowing you to change the impedance. The cover does show lite wear but works great. This will make a very fine example if you are a singer or broadcaster and the mic has a smooth warm tone as you would expect from any quality ribbon mic.
The threading for the stand is perfect as is for the cable.
You'll notice that there is a older 3 pin screw on cable. Same as used on the Shure 55 and 55S model mics. The cable is just 6 inches long. It's in perfect condition. Again, just leave the short cable on the mic and use a longer XLR to XLR cable.
The nice mic case is also included and a great place to store the mic when not in actual use. The case is appx 13 inches across X 5 inches deep X 4 inches tall. It has a nice black vinyl exterior with a carrying handle and a locking mechanism for the top lid. I added two new foam inner pads to keep the mic safe and snug. A great package deal.
These 315 series mics are getting very hard to come by these days and continue to increase in value as the years go by. You'll be hard pressed to find a nicer example.
