Up for sale is this vintage 1983 BC Rich Mockingbird bass guitar. This is a super cool instrument, but it will require some work and is being offered "AS IS" and "AS FOUND" so please read the entire description and see all of the photos.

This instrument was loved and played heavily over the years. It shows wear to the extreme, especially on the back in the belt-buckle region and along the edges. To be quite honest, it looks great. There are some extra holes in the top of the body where it appears that a thumb-rest was once located and the bridge pickup cavity has been routed for a Jazz-style pickup. The worst issue on this one is that there are two headstock cracks coming off of the tuner screw holes. One runs through the truss rod cavity and is pictured. These have not been repaired and we figure the new owner will want to have this one restored to some extent, so we have left it alone.

The bass appears to be original with the exception of the pickups, some wiring, some missing knobs, one pot (the originals date to the last few weeks in 1982), and the strap buttons. As the bass is currently wired, there are individual volume controls for each pickup and a master tone. The other controls are not working and we have not attempted to sort it out. A picture of the cavity is included. Both pickups work and sound great. The neck pickup covers show incredibly heavy wear from years of use and have divots in the tops, which is cool as can be if you ask us.

The bass came in with full tension on it and it plays great, just as one would expect from an instrument with this much wear on it. The action is low and comfortable all the way up the neck with minimal buzz. The original frets have been dressed several times over the years and will not take another dressing as they're VERY low so a refret will eventually be in the future but, right now, we don't see the need for one. The neck is straight and the truss rod functions in both directions. Before gigging it, however, we would recommend having the cracks on the back of the neck addressed.

An older, but unoriginal and loose-fitting, hardshell case will be included to protect the bass during shipping and it will be well-packed inside to ensure its safety. The case is well-worn and not in the best shape, but all of the latches and hinges are there and present and it's sturdy enough for right now.

Original USA BC Rich instruments from this era have gotten nearly impossible to find and there's a reason for that, folks just don't sell them. While this one isn't perfect and will require some love, it's a great bass that no doubt has a lot more life left in it. Don't miss out, this one will not last long...
