Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.
If you are a serious collector of vintage microphones then you might want to give this old gem a consideration.
This is a harder to come by 1950's era 650 model mic made by Electro Voice which was a very high end studio mic with uni-directional characteristics and an adjustable impedance of 250 - 50 OHMS making this a very versatile microphone. The mic comes with the period E.V 419 model desk stand and a short cable. It should be noted that while this mic is in gorgeous physical condition the mic itself no longer works. This mic should be used for display, prop or repair purposes only.
Pic # 2 shows this very model as well as the very similar 645 model and their basic characteristics in an old data sheet I have.
You needed deep pockets to buy one of these as it was basically E.V's flagship dynamic cardioid mic for a few years before the mic was discontinued. I believe the style of the mic was just too radical with it's very modern contemporary looks as well as it's steep price. Apparently the sledgehammer look didn't take off. Sales were fairly poor and the price was just too much being almost 3 times as expensive as the typical dynamic mic of that era.
This seldom seen mic in in very nice physical condition and worthy of any fine vintage mic display but the sound performance on the mic is like new as well and can be used for any type of broadcasting or singing event. It was absolutely a studio mic for it's time. The impedance switch works great and allows you to use this with any audio equipment you happen to be using (Again, dead element in the mic) and the 650 was designed with the standard XLR attachment which was also very new for that time. Very few mics of the early 1950's had an XLR attachment.
You'll see the 650 model mic is quite large and does have some weight to it. An all metal body that's built like a tank and has the quality polished chrome finish. The lower pistol grip allows you to screw the mic onto any desk or floor stand you have and the joint mechanism tilts according to your needs. The mechanism has adjustable tension via the side screw.
The mic is free of any dents, fractures, pitting or deep scratches and I would rate it a very conservative 8 on a scale of 1 - 10. Some would rate higher. The mic with stand is appx 12 inches tall.
The mic comes with the equally beautiful period 419 model desk stand and a chrome riser that screws onto the mic stand giving the mic a bit more height to work with. The desk stand is in very nice condition showing very lite wear with a few paint chips on the top of the base The stand has all 4 rubber pads and the cable clamp as well as the original screw to mount the riser. The riser looks fantastic.
A short 12 inch cable is also included and completes the look of the mic. It's soft, pliable and free of any damage. It has the vintage male Cannon XLR end connector and the cable attached into the mic securely.
If you want something truly unique for the collection this 650 will do the trick.
MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.
