Magnavox AS9506 Power Amp, Tape Deck, Vinyl Player 1980s maybe?

Man this thing is versatile! It is a combination record player, cassette recorder/player, power amp, tuner, and speaker system. Some really cool applications I can think of (or have used): speaker system for interface, vinyl sampler setup, dual stereo cassette recorder and player, radio sampler, etc.

I got it at a thrift store near my house for a pretty good deal, so it’s not in perfect condition, and there’s a few functional issues it has that are important to note:

The vinyl player runs slightly faster than true. It’s sharp by about half a semitone to my ear, which makes it hard to use as a proper record player. However, I put on instrumental stuff and it sounds perfectly normal, and you kind of forget about the speed problem. If you wanted to use it to pull samples, it would probably be great for that, and might even lead you to some new tuning territory!

The only other thing is that the tuner screen doesn’t work. As far as I know it still functions if you tune it, and it’s got long cables that you can attach antennas to if you want to use it. I never have tried but the tuner input certainly works at producing static haha.

Other than that it works perfect! I’ve been using it as a power amp for some other speakers I have, and the 95w it outputs are plenty for them. It’s also solid state as far as I know, so it’s not crazy heavy like some other amps of this era. If you wanted to hook it up to a surround system, it allegedly has support for that, although I’m not sure how that all works and is certainly beyond my scope of use. It’s got a few inputs to connect whatever you wanted to it, and a little eq section to get the balance right for your uses. And it comes with speakers, which I used for a bit before getting some bigger ones. They sound perfectly fine, just a bit quiet due to their size. One of the speakers‘ front covers has a little break on it, but it stays on fine and doesn’t affect the sound at all.

Use this thing to its fullest extent! If you are a producer that likes working out of the box, this is a great entry drug into that world of sample flipping and other fun stuff. I’m only selling because I have more stuff that covers this territory a bit better for my purposes. And if you’re not a producer, it’s a great sounding amp and the vinyl player can probably be easily fixed, and you’ve got a 700 dollar setup on your hands for way cheaper.
