Up for grabs is a used (has a lightly reliced appearance from player's wear) StewMac Neck Humbucker Zebra (Black has screws / Creme has flat pole pieces) Exposed Coils (meaning NO pup cover), 8.42k (fully functional) -- Medium output humbucker pickup Alnico 5. StewMac item # 101549 . Comes with screws & springs. 50mm pole spacing -- 2000s-2010s - Sorry I don't know the exact year.

This 4 conductor pickup was modified to now be a 2 conductor pickup. SEE pictures # 4 and # 5 as well as picture # 2 (which show the wire connections without the outer black electrical tape that is seen in close-up picture # 6 - as well as in pictures # 1, 9, and 10). I have written a lot of details about this further down in the description.

StewMac call this pickup: Neck Position, Zebra Exposed Coils StewMac item # 101549 . Since the screws are on the black part (upper half) and the flat pole piece area on the creme part (lower part) - this is s REVERSE Zebra. Also as I stated above - Exposed Coils just means that it does not have a pickup cover. This Seymour Duncan article titled :What does a reverse zebra humbucker look like?" (see link below) explains the difference and has pictures:

  • seymourduncan.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360036083394-What-does-a-reverse-zebra-humbucker-look-like#:~:text=September%2030%2C%202019%2014:55,ve%20made%20a%20handy%20chart.

"Technically" This StewMac Neck Humbucker (REVERSE Zebra) is not a PAF pickup - but you can use it in the same manner as a PAF -- meaning even though this is a NECK pickup (50 mm pole spacing )with a DCR of 8.42k - you can put it in the bridge position if you are doing the PAF thing. Please message me if you'd like me to explain this.

NOTES: about the wiring modification:

  • FULL LENGTH: both the original 4 conductor lead and the added (connected) 2 conductor lead is about 9 and 1/2 inches long.
  • The original FOUR Conductor lead wire was shortened a lot: The main short black part to the ends of the thin red, green, white, black, and bare wires is about 2 and 1/4 inches. Measuement of just original FOUR Conductor lead wire (the main short black part) is 2 inches long (which is very short).
  • And then a TWO Conductor lead wire was attached. The lengh of the TWO Conductor wire is about and 3/4 inches to the end of the main black insulation. And the length of the TWO Conductor wire to the bar ends of the white and bare wires is about and 7 and 1/2 inches.

Fully functional.

Review pictures for the conditon of this pickup, the wires, and the screws & springs.

BLACK BOBBIN -- Top side and top outer edges of the black bobbin has many more imperfections (nicks, scratches, light scuffs ...) than the top side and top outer edges of the creme bobbin. The top outer areas of the black bobbin has a little bit of residue from the black tape that wraps around the outer sides.

CREME BOBBIN -- The Right areas of the Top Side & Top right area edges of the creme bobbin have several tiny & very small nick. The right areas has has some very short scratches SEE pictures # 15 16, and 17. The other areas of the Top Side have a few very short dash scratches & a couple of tiny & very small nick (most of them do not show up in the pictures - but they can be seen in person - you can kind of seen a few of them in pic # 17). And a few areas of the tops side of the creme bobbin have clear / cloudy surface wax spots (you can see some in pic # 7).

  • NOTE: In person the creme color is a yellow-ish creme color as seen n pictures # 1, 2, 7, 16, and 17 ---- not a faded creme color as seen in pictures 3, 10, 12, 13, 14.
  • Pictures # 15 and 18 to 21 ( the creme color does not appear the actual shade of creme as it appears in person).

And some pictures were taken in a lower light and the color of the pickup appear duller.

The underside of the pickup as a thin layer of surface wax and it has discoloration (like yellowish stains on / in the wax - not sure if the stains are on the metal plate). See pictures for the other imperfections - like very tiny spots or nicks and a few hairline scratches.

The screws and springs are fine - they are new. The heads of the screws are Phillips.

More NOTES about the wiring: SEE close up pictures # 4 and # 5 -- also see picture # 2 (these pictures show the wires connections under the outer black electric tape that is seen in pictures # 1, 6, 9, and 10).

The red wire of the original 4 conductor lead and the white wire of 2 conductor lead are twised together and has a dab of solder added. The folded down. And then electrical heat shrink tubing was added.

The green and white wires of the original 4 conductor lead are twisted together and have a dab of solder added. The folded down And then electrical heat shrink tubing was added.

The thin black white wire + the bare wire of the original 4 conductor lead and the bare wire of the 2 conductor lead are twisted together -- and has a dab of solder. Then folded up. And then electrical heat shrink tubing was added.

Afterwards black electrical tape was added. I'll retake some of the pictures.

NOTE: The shortening of the original 4 conductor lead and the first connection (& addition) of the 2 conductor lead was done by the previous owner of this pickup (which was not me). I redid the connections (made it cleaner and more secure) by added electrical heat shrink tubing to the 3 groups of wire connections.

This pickup is ideal for one one who likes this model pickup in REVERSE Zebra and who likes the condition of it, and wants it to be (likes it as) 2 conductor - opposed to 4 conductor.

Since this pickup is now 2 conductor connection. If you decide to undo this and make it back to 4 conductor - it will be generally easy to do if you have the 4 conductor wire, a soldering iron, solder, and electric heat shrink tubing. But when you do so you will need make the original lead wire a little shorter.

The following are product details about this item (NOTE: the info about the Bridge position pup - is ONLY provided as a reference -- the Bridge pickup is NO included). Also as I explained in the description above and as you can see in some of the pictures - the original 4 conductor wire was very short and it was modded to be 2 conductor. But there is still about 2 inches of the 4 conductor on the picuk up - in case you want to take off the added/attached 2 conductor wire and add attached a 4 conductor lead.
