What you are about to read and see is a rare affordable opportunity.

This unique 'very' early 1956 Gibson Goldtop has been refinished and lacquered over as well. The body was sprayed gold over the original gold and clear lacquer over the 2 gold coats. The body shows wear through the lacquer and the 2nd gold coat and in some spots you can even see lacquer checking in original gold finish making for a very unique overall look, with a lot of character and VIBE. From the looks of the newer finish wear, this work was done at least over 30 years ago.
All the parts are original except the cream jack plate, and the machine head tuners seem to have higher string posts, the ivory tips are aging a bit oddly with the nickel not looking as aged like on the bridge and tail piece. The original frets are in excellent smooth condition with no signs of wear and the Brazilian rosewood fretboard in the same condition. Superb.

When someone re-laqured the back of the body and neck, they sanded down the thickness a bit of the neck to a thinner not quite 1960's Les Paul feel. I will get the neck thickness at 1st. & 12th. fret shortly. Lastly, the back of the headstock has a one inch insignificant hairline surface crack with no movement as seen in picture.

The wiring and pots appear to be all original with all 4 pots reading 304542, making this one of the earliest 56' Goldtops with a tuneomatic bridge ever. Finally: The back underside of the 2 pickup covers and cavity cover have been signed by the estate owner of this 4 year vintage collection.

Case is a non original older Washburn hard case in excellent used condition.

Guitar is all set up by our new house guitar technician John, with a seasoned fretboard, fresh Ernie Ball .10-.46 strings, and clean, fully working electronics. Words cannot describe how this guitar plays and sounds. see VIDEO!

Our new 'hot' guitar tech John was just complemented on some of the wiring work and his set ups he did here at our shop by our neighbor, thee best 'master' luthier guitar technician around, Mike Koontz of 'Koontz Guitar Repair' right here in Ferndale. Mikes been a good friend and family here at Gordy's Music for almost 40 years and does work and fret jobs for countless major hitters in the Big Leagues of the music business. Thee best around for many hundreds of miles.

John by the way, was the lead guitarist and toured with 'The Black Dalia Murder Group' for 3 years and is on their first 3 albums. I think they now have 10 albums and are still at it. He is one hell of a guitar player and technician. We are very excited to have him on board, in our family, and on our team.
