The McCarty family honors Ted McCarty, who began consulting with Paul Reed Smith on guitar design and production techniques in the late 1980s. Their relationship grew into a mentorship and friendship. Introduced in 1994, the first PRS McCarty combined knowledge Paul gained from Ted with his own experience as a guitar builder.

General PRS 2024 Core update: PRS introduced lighter-weight Wing tuner buttons on many Core guitars, with a shape inspired by the 12th-fret bird's wingspan. PRS explained that the reduced weight helps preserve string energy and sustain, and that removing the locking feature on non-tremolo models further reduces tuner weight. This is general model-year information, not verification of the tuner configuration on this individual guitar.
