Additional information:

“Gianluca Zanetti (1977–2017) was an acclaimed Italian violin maker (liutaio) renowned for his craftsmanship rooted in the classical Cremonese tradition.

Born in Mantua (Mantova), Italy, on August 6, 1977, Zanetti began his training at the prestigious Scuola di Liuteria di Cremona (Cremona Violin Making School), where he studied under Vanna Zambelli and graduated in 1999. He further honed his skills through advanced apprenticeship with master luthier Stefano Trabucchi. Throughout his career, he also collaborated with other makers, including Daniela Solcà.

Deeply inspired by the great Cremonese masters—particularly Antonio Stradivari—Zanetti specialized in crafting violins (and occasionally other bowed instruments) modeled after classic designs. His instruments are noted for their powerful, buttery tone with rich depth (especially on the lower strings), elegant arching, and beautiful varnishes, often featuring striking one-piece maple backs with distinctive figuring.

After establishing himself, Zanetti co-founded Liuteria Classica Mantovana (LCM) in Mantua with fellow luthier Alessandro Gambarin. The workshop and showroom were located at Via Ippolito Nievo in Mantova, where he produced and sold his instruments. His work gained international recognition, with pieces exhibited at prestigious events such as the Cremona Triennial Competition and Music China in Shanghai. He enjoyed a strong following among players and collectors in Europe and the United States.

Since his untimely passing in 2017, no new instruments by Gianluca Zanetti will ever be made. This makes owning one a rare and meaningful addition to any fine instrument collection—a lasting testament to his exceptional skill and dedication to traditional lutherie. His legacy endures through the cherished violins that continue to be played and admired worldwide.”
