Refurbished Telefunken E Lam 112 dynamic microphone - All original!

This is possibly the absolute rarest mic ever listed on reverb. This model has never been listed before on reverb or eBay and it is the earliest E Lam of its heritage! You will most certainly never see one again, and if you do, it will definitely not be in working condition. You are probably familiar with the history of carbon elements and how they go bad over time due to moisture So to find a working one, albeit working poorly (sounds very grainy with low output), it is still extremely rare. Not just rare for this model, but rare for any carbon element in 2025 at all. I’m happy to install a new diaphragm in it for you but I’d much rather leave the original components intact. This is more a collectors item, much less a functioning studio item.

I had to gut and cannibalize a couple other ones to make one working one, and this is it. The ultimate collectors mic, having survived for over 80 years and STILL WORKS is quite an amazing thing. Perfect for the collector, prop house or European mic enthusiast. Other than the cable this mic is 100% all original!

This Is a collectors item, not a high end studio mic and is sold as is. All vintage items are delicate and fragile and therefore sold with no returns. Note it still has original carbon element! Details below.

This microphone was assuredly cutting edge at the time and was head and shoulders above the crystal mics of its’ era. These primitive dynamic elements are very old and fragile and have not faired well over the decades. This one is quite the survivor, just don’t expect high quality recordings With this old carbon elements. We started with a couple donors and this mic and ended up with the best one of the bunch. Another 211 gave its life so this one could carry on in this world :) The Bakelite shell shattered into a hundred pieces during the gutting of components.

The inner materials have deteriorated over the last 8 decades so please don’t expect this to sound like a modern, high-end studio mic or anything like it’s famous etymological brother, the E Lam 251 (obviously), but rather a glimpse into the past of what mics used to sound like in the 1940’s. The vintage sound is a bit rough, but it does work and sounds quite unique! As you may know, carbon absorbs moisture over time which is why almost all carbon mics are shot.

RESTORATION DETAILS:

Using all the original elements from multiple donor 112’s I was able to put together this beautiful glimpse of audio past. Happy to throw in the shattered remnants of the other Bakelite body I still have. A modern mic cable and TS jack has been added for use in todays environment. Pics show a TRS jack but my tech replaced it with a proper TS jack. I can shorten the 15’ cable into a pigtail for free if you prefer. I also have a slightly cracked up second hollow body if needed as a prop or whatever.

* Note that the shell of the mic is 84 year old Bakelite, so there is nowhere to ground the microphone properly, therefore there is no ground and does have some inherent noise as this was the original design. Some of the old deteriorating cloth wiring on the inside was replaced with modern vintage appropriate, safe wiring for a better sign to noise ratio.

Mic was serviced professionally by Custom Audio Labs in KY Oct 2024 and is as good as it can get for an 84 year old mic, and sold as is.
