The Oberheim OB-6 Rack Module is a compact, desktop version of the classic OB-6 synthesizer, designed in collaboration between Dave Smith and Tom Oberheim. It offers the same powerful features as its keyboard counterpart, including an all-analogue signal path with discrete VCOs (voltage-controlled oscillators) and a 2-pole resonant filter. Its sound engine is based on the original Oberheim SEM (Synthesizer Expander Module), known for its rich, vintage analogue tone.
This rack module is equipped with a 6-voice polyphony, dual effects (reverbs, delays, and more), a polyphonic step sequencer, and an arpeggiator. Additionally, its X-Mod section provides advanced modulation capabilities for creating complex, evolving sounds. Despite being a rack unit, it has hands-on control with a knob-per-function design, making it user-friendly for live performance or studio work.
