It is a great pleasure to have this pristine  K Yairi KY NYM90V AM from the new Masterworks series.
Certainly one of the most exclusive OO 12 fretters out there !

The resonance and vibrant response is stunning with light strumming, trebles are crystal clean, mids have honk from the mahogany.

The right hand response is soft and immediate. I'm actually blown away by how precise this guitar is, absolutely everything responds. But it is the balance that also is surprising, just the right amount of everything. Pretty inspiring actually.

Subtle nuances are apparent with fingerstyle. Note that the shorter scale gives a softer, more mellow tone, compared to a 14 fret guitar. The definition in the attack of each note is very precise, the trebles are shiny without being overbearing. Basses are precise and present in the attack, without being boomy.

All solid Kayha Mahogany, solid Kayha Mahogany top. The wood catches the light with a beautiful shimmer.

The finest choice of naturally aged woods from the legendary workshops of K Yairi, selected and sorted over the years.

This all mahogany guitar has the soft felty warm tone we appreciate for finger style.

Less overloaded harmonics compared to Indian Rosewood, more delicate than Ovankol.
Finish and setup are impeccable.
Light and vibrant, with response that allows modulation and expression.

Discretly classy abalone and mother of pearl inlays ornate the purling and headstock.

K Yairi dovetail neck joint, hand carved and fitted, with a prolonged neck design under the soundboard.

Neck/body irregularities just don’t happen with a K Yairi guitar because of the extended neck design reaching further under the table.

The Direct Coupled Bridge gives a steeper angle from the bridge to the string pin, which increases pressure on the bridge , resulting in increased volume, sustain, projection. The system also avoids tops lifting and deforming.
This guitar is set up for comfort, there is a connected feel in the left hand and the balanced sound is clear and really pleasant.

The right hand response is immediate, sound is balanced and pronounced in terms of definition.

Fabriquées au Japon depuis 1935, ces guitares sont parmi les plus belles du monde. Les ateliers K. Yairi se trouvent dans les montagnes au Japon, à Kani, Gifu, où sont fabriqués des instruments depuis 1935. Comme vous pouvez le voir dans les photos des ateliers, rien n'a vraiment changé depuis de longues années. En travaillant avec les outils et techniques manuels, et un savoir faire fièrement transmis d'une génération à l'autre, K. Yairi a su perpetuer une tradition et spécialité de la région. On remarquera une qualité de finition extraordinaire, des essences de bois superbes, et une gamme d'instruments unique en son genre. Là où les grands fabricants Américains ont choisis d'investir dans la production industriel avec des usines en Korée et Chine et un séchage de bois en étuve, four ou micro-onde, avec des manches 'bolt-on' ou vissé, avec découpage laser, ... K. Yairi a continué à acheter du bois et à fabriquer des instruments à la main. Même le 'dove-tail joint', la partie ou caisse et manche se rejoignent est taillé à la main. La stabilité du bois reste un facteur essentiel dans la duré de vie d'un instrument, et dans sa justesse. K. Yairi posséde les stocks de bois trés important, qui attendent des années, naturellement à l'air libre, avant d'être soigneusement sélectionnés pour utilisation. La gestion du bois et séchage naturel nécessite une patience inimaginable. Quand on adopte une guitare K Yairi c'est pour la vie. D'ailleurs les instruments ont une garantie à vie contre les défauts de fabrication.
