No one knows when this neck was put on, Probably in the very early 30’s? Whoever did it knew what they were doing!
There are a number of repaired cracks on the gorgeous mahogany body, including a very old repair on the bottom side as you can see in the pics, but the top is almost pristine. All repairs are stable and the guitar plays wonderfully. This is a very old and well played guitar and has bumps, rubs, scratches, dings, play ware and cracks. This is a Player’s guitar!
The sound is amazing. The acoustic engineer at Swallow Hill Folk Music Center in Denver said it was one of the two best sounded guitars he has ever recorded in 20 years.
She just has that old Martin vibe. Incredible how this parlor size is so load!
Action is good. Light gauge strings.
Does not need a neck reset. I am selling this with a hard-shell case because I don’t play it as much as my other guitars. But every time I pick her up I wonder why.
A email from the Martin Company:
Hi Michael,
Thank you for these photos!
According to our records, this was a 2-18T tenor guitar stamped June 11, 1929 -- this is considered its 'birthday', when production began on it.
Since this is now a 6-string guitar instead of the original 4-string tenor guitar, it must have been given a new neck and a new bridge at some point and converted to 6-string.
We do not have any repair records or other information about the guitar, so the neck and bridge replacement must have been done by another luthier, not here in Nazareth.
We do not have specific records about the exact kind of Spruce the top would be, but it is Spruce. Probably Adirondack or Sitka, or another variety, like Vermont or Engelmann.
I hope this helps. It certainly is a curious instrument! I hope you enjoy it!
Best regards,
Scott

***I would love to keep all these outstanding I’ve collected but my wife and I retired almost a year ago, moved into our 36’ rv and have no room. I listed most of my beloved guitars to see which ones sell, So it is pure fate as to what guitars (3) I can keep. ***
Please look at all the pictures, this is the vintage Martin you are buying
