DESCRIPTION
From 1966 to 1972, Fender produced three distinctive versions of the Coronado guitar, each embodying the brand's innovative spirit while offering unique features for different types of players.
The original Fender Coronado I was a single-pickup design that set the stage for this series. Simple yet elegant, it offered players the classic tone of a hollow-bodied electric guitar with a streamlined, minimalist setup.
Building on the success of the Coronado I, Fender introduced the Coronado II, which added a bridge pickup along with independent volume and tone controls. This addition allowed for greater tonal versatility, giving players the ability to blend and shape their sound with more precision.
The Coronado XII took the series in a different direction with its twelve-string configuration, offering a richer, more resonant sound that was perfect for genres ranging from folk to rock.
All versions of the Coronado were true hollow-bodied electric guitars, with the top, sides, and back constructed from laminated maple and finished in a striking high-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer, enhancing both the guitar's appearance and its acoustic properties.
The Coronado's neck was a thing of beauty, bound and adorned with block inlays, providing both a smooth playing experience and an elegant look. Fender chose DeArmond pickups for this series, known for their bright, articulate tone, which perfectly complemented the guitar's hollow body.
The bridge was a floating, non-anchored "tune-o-matic" style, allowing for subtle adjustments and contributing to the guitar's signature sound. Additionally, players could opt for a tremolo tailpiece, available at an extra cost, adding even more expressive potential to the Coronado's already impressive feature set.
The Fender Coronado guitars remain a testament to Fender's willingness to experiment and push the boundaries of traditional guitar design, offering players a unique combination of classic aesthetics and versatile performance.
