I purchased this drum with a blue oyster set around 1995 and I have come to realize, just recently, that this snare drum may have not been part of the set I got this snare with. The other drums are from 1965.
It is a 1960-63 Ludwig 5 x 14 Jazz Festival Pre-Serial snare drum. The date stamp is very faint on the inside. My best guess is June 21, 1962 or1961. The bottom head is original and it appears to have never been removed from the drum. On the bottom, one snare string is not original. I am pretty positive the only part ever removed from this snare drum was the batter hoop to replace its head. I have looked over the pearl pretty well and found only one tiny scuff and two tiny scratches.
