Fostex R8 Reel to Reel Tape Deck *Just Serviced*

Original owner, low-hour (rarely used) deck. Heads in very good condition!

Keep in mind that servicing cost $300 and shipping back-and-forth was another $170. If you see cheaper decks available, you'd most likely need to add these costs in order to end up with a deck in this condition.

Main features:

- 8 channels for recording/playback

- 15 ips tape speed for high-fidelity recording

- 10% pitch variation

- Dolby C noise reduction (on or off)

- auto-locate / auto-return

- 10 definable memory points for use with auto-locate

- zone limiting for all transport functions

- detachable control panel to optionally lay panel down for ease of use

- syncing to MIDI commands via the optional MTC-1 encoder

- Syncing to SMPTE via optional synchronizer

The following work has been done:

- Level, bias and eq tweaking done to factory spec on all channels

- Frequency response flat to about 21Khz, with a bit of a 3db rise at the top end

- Improved design of both left and right side pulleys by securing them with metal sleeves and collets; the original R8 design caused the pulleys to detach occasionally; these guys are on tight.

- Heads, capstan and pinch rollers cleaned

- Capstan belt changed

- Heads cleaned and demagnetized

I did one round of recording/playback on all channels after getting the deck back from servicing, and it works perfectly. Recordings sound great.

This deck comes with these additional items:

- (2) rca-to-1/4” cable snakes, each containing eight cables for connecting all ins and outs on the R8 to a mixer or other audio gear

- (1) brand new reel of ATR Mastertape, 7” x 1250 feet, 1/4” tape

- (1) take up reel

- (1) foot pedal with two switches; one for punch in/out and one for play/auto-locate

- (1) original R8 manual

- (2) rack ears for mounting the deck in an equipment rack

- (1) Allen wrench for tightening pulley collets (see above)

- (1) plastic cover for the pinch roller

- (1) spare pulley

Will be shipped in the original Fostex box, and will be shipped box-in-a-box for added safety.
