Completely RECAPPED and Tuned up on May 30, 2025. This is a fully functioning, great sounding, operational collectors item. This amp was made by Fender before the Blues Juniors and Hot Rod series amps, right after the “Rivera Era” in the 80s. Bill Hughes, the creator of the Ampeg SVT, and Mark Wentling, from MusicMan, designed the Champ 12 in 1986 while working for Fender. One of my favorite Fender amps of all time! 2 12AX7 tubes in the preamp and 1 6L6 in the power amp. Blackface clean tones on the clean channel, with that unmistakable Class A single-ended tube power section richness; full of harmonics. To me, that’s what separates this amp from other fender amps. It has all that single-ended Class-A power tube harmonic content, but uses a blackface preamp tone stack, so you can kind of get the best of both worlds between tweed and blackface fender tonality. Class-A Single-Ended tube amps emphasize the even ordered harmonics, which sound very pleasing to the human ear. This is why the Champ amps were so wildly legendary- the sound! However, the original 50s Champs were very limited by lack of controls, a very small speaker, and no reverb. However, the “Champ 12” DOES have real spring reverb with just the right amount of splash to it, a lead channel with “Gain” and “Volume” that has a tone inspired by MESA/Boogie, Beautiful SNAKESKIN Tolex, RCA in, 1/4” Line Out, 1/4” headphone out, Bass & Treble controls with Pull Mid Boost, and is loaded with a 12” Made in USA Eminence “Legend” VICTORIA branded 8 ohm speaker that came stock in a “High Power Vlux,” a boutique amp in the 4K price range - giving it the perfect tone compliment for the quintessential Fender sparkle. Amp also includes a padded Tuki cover to keep it safe during transport to gigs. The ultimate Grab & Go amp at less than 30 lbs! MODIFIED 1/4” speaker jack so you can disconnect the internal speaker and hook it up to any 8 Ohm Cab! Hardwired footswitch is intact and fully functional, as is every knob and control on the amp. Included is a December 1987 Magazine Article from a UK publisher reviewing this amp model. There are numerous small imperfections in the tolex, tiny abrasions, and signs of general use for this amplifier that is almost 40 years old, but tuned up for 40 more years of RELIABLE operation, sounding better than new thanks to upgraded caps and a far superior internal speaker. Don’t spend 1K on a modern Blues Junior! Get some real MOJO with a seriously underrated and slept on Class-A, made-in-USA Fender Tube amp!!
