Tommy Lee's Motley Crue "Girls, Girls, Girls" Tour Pearl Free Floating Snare Drum.

This Pearl snare drum is one of two custom Free Floating snares that Tommy Lee used on Motley Crue's 1987 "Girls, Girls, Girls" tour. Both snares were 14 x6.5" Free Floating models with custom red hardware. One snare had a steel shell and this snare had a red lacquered maple shell. The drums were alternately rotated through the show allowing Lee to always have a freshly tuned snare.

The 6.5x14" drum shows some scars from its years on the road getting slammed by Tommy Lee. Some of the red finish has chipped off to the hardware. The maple shell has a few minor scuffs in it's lacquer finish. Otherwise, everything looks, works and sounds fantastic. The batter head is signed "Tommy Lee, Motley Crue"

Tommy Lee gave the drum to music technologist, Reek Havok. Tommy initially loaned the drum to Havok so he could record samples of the drum for his Emu-Procussion sample library. When it came time to return the drum, Tommy gave him the drum.

Reek Havok was an early advocate of electronic drums starting about 1980. He soon became the "Go-To" guy in Los Angeles for anything involving electronic drums. He helped dozens of the top drummers in the world incorporate electronics into their drum sets by installing his "Drastik Plastic" triggers into their acoustic drums. Alan White, Cozy Powell, Gregg Bissonette and Tommy Lee were just a few of the drummers he worked with.

Reek's first involvement with Motley Crue came in 1985 when he was asked to electronically enhance the drum sounds on the band's "Theater of Pain" album. Next, he was asked to install triggers in his Tommy Lee's touring drum set, allowing him to trigger the new enhanced drum sounds in live performances. Additionally, drum pads were added to Tommy’s set to trigger other drum sounds, background vocals and more.

Reek is the one who conceived the idea for the custom electronic drum set that Tommy Lee would eventually play floating 120 feet above live audiences, affectingly known as the “Flying Stunt Kit of Doom.

Reek would routinely tour with Motley Crue, troubleshooting and maintaining Tommy Lee's live electronics.

Along with the snare drum, Reek has included a collection of tour artifacts, saved from his years on the road with Motley Crue. All the items seen in the photos are included.
