We are one of the only facilities in the Pacific NorthWest that buys, sells and restores reel to reel tape decks. We have over 35 years experience working on these units, and have the tools and test equipment to properly align and bring these decks to life.
We use MRL calibration tapes, and are dealers for ATR tape. We work on everything from mono tube machines to 2" 24 track studio decks. We are reeltoreeltech dot com!
We stock many types of ATR tape from 7" reels to 2", in several formulations. We have about 350 decks in stock at all times. If you haven't yet checked out our website, please do so. Under the 'about us' tab we have a bunch of articles regarding the 'great barn finds' that we've come across this year, netting us well over 100 decks and tons of parts.

We recently picked up a number of vintage audio pieces that had been stored in a storage locker for years, probably 6 or so. The owner ended up passing away, so we picked up a good portion of the storage locker. While we've gone through each item (and there's more to come, we'll indicate clearly which of our listings came from this locker), and electronically they work perfectly, they are a bit of 'scratch and dent' specials, and the price has been reduced accordingly. This Sony TC-756 is one of the units.

The Sony TC-756 is a bit of a rare beast, in that it's a high speed (7 1/2 and 15 IPS) 1/4 track deck. The more common, almost identical TC-755 has the more standard consumer tape speeds (3 3/4 and 7 1/2 IPS). For better fidelity, the high speed version is the way to go, as the frequency response just sings at 15 IPS as shown in the pix. The deck has ferrite heads, which last a lot longer than regular steel heads.

While this deck powered up fine, it needed a bunch of work done to it:
-2 new pinch rollers

-new capstan and counter belts
-lubrication of the pinch roller sleeve bearings

-replacement of the brake linings. Sony's brake linings were underrated, we improve on them with a better medium, and have had zero issues in the last 10 years of doing so.

-cleaning of all switches and controls

-replacement of 1 reel table, as it was corroded

-minor tweaking of the bias and eq, to set it for ATR MDS-36 tape

The deck is flat to 20Khz at 7 1/2 IPS, and to about 24Khz at 15 IPS. This is outstanding for any reel to reel deck, and matches higher end pro decks like Otari, Studer and Tascam. It sounds great, and gives an awesome tape sound to any digital recording. Whether you want a high end deck to put into your stereo, or you want to warm up digital tracks in your DAW, this is a great way to go.

Cosmetically, the deck is a bit challenged. Please review the pictures carefully, but we'll outline the problems here as well:

-the transport cover has a couple of minor marks on it, around the right reel table.

-the head cover has pitting in the aluminum on the top of the cover (very common on these Sonys)

-the bottom head cover is in decent shape
- the speed/function cover below the transport cover is in good shape

-the cover over the electronics has some scratches on it, as well as some other marks as shown.

-the woodgrain case has some veneer chipping on the top left front side as shown, the rest is decent.

Note that this deck's front covers are identical to that of the Sony TC-755. Some of the covers from the auto reverse version, the TC-758 will also fit, and spare parts come up on eBay regularly if you want to replace them yourself. (all front panel parts unscrew from the front, without the need to remove the deck from the case.

We'd normally sell this deck for $900, given that it's a high speed model, but have discounted it to $700 based on the cosmetics only.Audio-wise, the deck is in great shape, and for those that want to bounce tracks and don't care much about the cosmetics, this is a great deal!

Included with the deck are two Revox clone NAB hubs as well as a new metal 10" takeup reel.

We know how to pack these decks, and overpack them with styro sheets and bubble wrap. The shipping price quoted is worst case to the East Coast. Shipping in the West will be less, and any excess will be refunded.
