A very RARE Vintage Made in Japan Guitar. Its a Kawai made Zim Gar in a ES175 or L5 Jazz Guitar Style. A huge 17 1/2 inch wide lower bout with a thin line 2 1/2 inch wide thickness. Its all original and looks great.

Kawai made many guitar brands in the 1960's such as Apollo Audition, Decca, Heit, Hy-Lo, Kent Kingston, Lafayette, Saturn, Winston and of course Zim Gar... There are no dates to certify this guitar from 1967. We were told it was of that vintage and will call it that.

The guitar is just beautiful. It plays great with nice low action. That being said, with the height of the neck pickup, the guitar frets out after the 18th frets. Without completely taking the set neck assembly apart and redoing the neck, you will have to do without those couple of frets. Not a bad compromise on playing this beauty jazz box.

The pickups sound great. Beautiful tones on the neck and Rock-a-billy to the max on the neck with everything in between. They sound great and quite powerful.

The guitar is all original to include the pickups, bridge, knobs, L5 Style Tailpiece, Cool Whammy bar, awesome wood look matching pickguard, frets, switch, nut, Zim Gar Truss Rod cover, Deluxe Tuners and finish. Quite a beauty here!

The guitar has a 25 1/2 inch scale neck and a 1 11/16 inch nut. The guitar weighs only 6 lbs.

We didn't get the case with it. It would need to be really wide at 17.5 inches inside dimension so we are shipping it in a gigbag. See pic
