Do you hear marching snares in the distance? John Phillips Sousa, is that you?

200 years after the inception of the experiment we've come to know as the US of A, the good folks in Nazareth, PA (roughly 76 miles up the road from Philadelphia's Independence Hall) paid tribute to our country's humble beginnings with the D-76. Sharing specs with D-35s of the era, this guitar sounds as warm as a pioneer's fire on the open frontier. The typical dot inlays of the era have been replaced with 13 stars, a nod to the 13 colonies that didn't want their tea taxed, or freedom axed. An eagle spreads its wings in the center of the headstock to remind us to boldly strum where no pick has strummed before. Also be sure to keep this thing away from Nicolas Cage, as there may or may not be a Declaration of Independence hiding within this limited run freedom cannon.

And yes in case you were wondering, only 1976 of these were made.

This example is 0039 of 1976 and, according to sources, was produced in late 1975. This guitar is in Very-Good-to-Good condition, showing signs of minor repair and moderate playwear. Upon arrival at our show, the guitar had cracks in the top, which were expertly repaired by our head technician, Jaxson Cottrell, with three cleats. The original pickguard had fallen off and has been replaced with a slightly-larger, similarly shaped pickguard from Allparts. There are minor finish cracks on the top in the bass-side waist area. The rest of the top shows minor scratches and dents which are difficult to see unless held to the light. There are some minor cracks in the waist area on the bass side of the guitar, which were deemed stable by our technicians. There is a dent on the bottom side of the body near the strap button which was also deemed stable by our techs. The frets are in remarkable condition for a guitar of this age, with minor-yet-playable divotting in the cowboy chord area. The fingerboard also has slight divotting in the cowboy chord area. There are some small areas of chip-out on the ebony fretboard on the treble side at position 3 & 4 which do not affect playability. There are minor dents on the edge of the headstock on the bass side between the E and A tuning machines. This guitar was recently refurbished and setup with a set of Curt Mangan 12's by Jaxson Cottrell at Keith Holland Guitars. This package includes the original blue hardshell case, a souvenir reproduction of Martin's certificate from the Centennial Exposition, and the original pickguard.
