This is a fully restored 1983 Vantage X-88 bass, manufactured in Japan by the famed Matsumoku guitar factory.
The body is made of Japanese ash. The 3 piece neck is rock maple, and the fretboard is rosewood.
It has 22 frets, and a 32-1/4" scale length. Standard tuners, brass nut, and a ripper style bridge.
When we received this bass it was in bad shape. The original tobacco brown finish was ruined, the bridge was bent, and the pickups were, quite literally, falling apart. But the structural integrity of the bass was in good shape. So we decided to do a full restoration. Here's what we did:
- Had the body professionally refinished in a beautiful Lake Placid Blue metalflake.
- Replaced the pickups, tone and volume controls, and jack with new Fender P-bass components.
- Installed a new bridge.
- Replaced the tuners.
- Repainted the headstock in complimenting black, and silkscreened the Vantage 'V'.
- Installed strap lock buttons.
If you're into early '80 basses, or Matsumoku made basses, this is an amazing one-of a kind find.
An after-market hard shell case is included. Shipping within the continental US is free.
