Fender Stratocaster 1965 - Factory-Original Black Over Charcoal Frost

This lovely and extremely rare Black over Charcoal Frost finish 1965 Stratocaster is all original to the period and plays wonderfully.

This 1965 Fender Stratocaster features a rare factory overspray—Black over Charcoal Frost Metallic. Fender occasionally repainted unsold custom-color bodies in more popular finishes during the mid-’60s, making this a legitimate Fullerton-era anomaly. Not a refinish.
All pickups are original and dated to ’65, with the neck pickup freshly rewound by Fred Stuart. Original frets, CRL switch, bridge, and Kluson tuners. Includes original case. Minor mod history (Rockinger trem holes, doweled body holes) professionally addressed.
A rare piece of Fender history with tone and vibe to match.

I've owned this guitar since the early '80's but I have more vintage Strats than I need and as much as I will miss it, it's time to let it go to someone who appreciates what it is.

The neck date is 12 Jun '65. The frets are original, also in great shape.

The bridge/trem is original to the guitar.

The CRL three-way is original to the period. 

The Kluson Double lines are NOS original to the period.

Knobs are period original.

Pick guard and shield are original to the period

The neck pickup is original to the guitar but the date is no longer visible. I believe it’s also around 6/12/65. It was just freshly rewound by Fred Stuart of Fender Custom Shop fame.

The middle pickup is dated 2-10-65

The bridge pickup is dated 8-16-65

The pots are all have a 137.6549 date code and are original to the guitar

We had to dowel and redrill a couple holes (not visible) when replacing a Rockinger trem system back to the original Fender trem system.

There are a couple of holes from the Rockinger left in the headstock.

Comes with original case and bridge cover.
