THE GOLDEN KING!
The El Rey Dorado is your go-to box for that Plexi tone. Yes, there is a wide range of 1960s Plexi amp tones in terms of power, tubes installed, speakers and/or cabinets used, but the El Rey Dorado hits the mark on basic sound ! One of the many reference points for the sound was my own JTM 45/100® full stack. (This is a perfect reissue that Marshall® made with custom vintage hobby speakers and dual transformers to transfer the load from the 4 EL-84s!)
“I want a black and gold Plexi tone,” shouts Joe!!!
The El Rey covers many classic British amp sounds by offering two gain modes with the Power Toggle. With the Power Toggle switch you control compression and harmonics. Low Power mode is louder, has more girth, and contains fewer overtones for a more old-school sound. High Power mode has more compression, more harmonics and a tighter, more defined sound. Old school crunch in Low Power mode, super lead sounds in High Power mode.
