This Sphere Eclipse C 16 preamp channel rack was custom build for me by Jon Erickson of A-Designs.
This rack is super awesome. I would not be selling it if I didn't sell my studio. This was the heart and soul of our sound. I think they sound like a cross between an API and a Neve. We used this as a mixer as well. We had 16ch of Protools wired into the line inputs, mixed it on the board and then wired all the outputs into a summing mixer. It sounded amazing.
This unit was hand built by Jon using an original pair of 8 channel Sphere Eclipse Mic Pre boards. He added custom balanced line receiver boards, Cinemag steel core output transformers, an external power supply (including +5v for circa 1978 CMOS driven reed relays) and a ton of point to point wiring!
These boards included the Reichenbach input transformers and SPA-62 opamps.
The extremely rare and sought after Sphere Eclipse consoles are the direct descendants of the legendary Electrodyne and Quad Eight boards of the 50's, 60's and 70's... all designed by Don McLaughlin, and are considered one of the best sounding analog desks ever made, on par with Neve, API, Helios, etc.
A little article about the console. These pres were in the Alpha Audio console. cinemag.biz/electrodyne/electrodyne_part_2.php
