D'Angelico NYS-2 New Yorker Small Body
A note on the color: the lights I use accentuated the red quite a bit. While it’s good for showing the grain, in regular light the color itself presents as a much mellower wine red, similar to the picture of it in its case, and also the last photo in regular room lighting.
For sale is a rarer offering from the Japanese D'Angelico lineup, the NYS-2. A distinctive iteration of the New Yorker, it has a narrower 15.5" lower bout compared to the more typical 17". In addition to the smaller body, the scale length is also a shorter 24.75".
-1 11/16" nut
-24.75" scale length
-15.5" lower bout
-2.75" rims
-Solid pressed top
This one is from the later era of Japanese D'Angelico and is distributed by the Crews company. Kurt Rosenwinkle's associations with these guitars has added to their popularity. But endorsements aside, they are very well made instruments. With its full hollow body and solid spruce top, the guitar produces a a nice amount of acoustic volume and has a nice voice. I do find that it excels when amplified, and really sings. Set up currently with string height at about 5/64-4/64" from bass to treble, with just a touch of relief. All of course adjustable to taste.
The guitar is in excellent shape overall, with only minor signs of use. It has a beautiful deep red color, and nice figuring in the maple back and sides. Ships in original alligator skin case.
A rare and beautiful guitar. If you like the standard New Yorker / NYL 2, but also like a shorter string length and narrower lower bout, this is the one for you.
