About This Listing

Today, Lawman Guitars Proudly Presents..

A virtual 1965 Time Capsule.  Check out this cool 1965 Lafayette Model 99N9022 WX Electric Guitar. Not only is the guitar in fantastic condition, it still has the original Hard Shell Case! Both together, this is an incredible find!

Lafayette was one of the Guyatone of Japan built guitars. Not familiar with Guyatone? They built many guitars under various fine Japanese brand guitars such as Apollo, Bruno, Custom Kraft, Hi Tone, Ibanez, Kent, Kingston, Noble, Raven and of course like this one, Lafayette.

Here is some information regarding the mail order Lafayette Radio Electronics Compay…

Established in the 1920s, Lafayette Radio Electronics (LRE) became a thriving mail-order catalog business; the electronic components it sold were useful to amateur radio operators and electronic hobbyists in areas where such components were unavailable in local retail outlets. Lafayette's main competitors were Radio Shack, Allied Radio, Heathkit, and "mom and pop" (independent) radio dealers throughout the United States. Early Lafayette Radio stores were located in Jamaica, N.Y. and Manhattan in the mid-1950s. The electronics kits were produced in the Jamaica facility.

Lafayette advertised heavily in major U.S. consumer electronics magazines of the 1960s and 1970s, particularly Audio, High Fidelity, Popular Electronics, Popular Mechanics, and Stereo Review. The company offered a free 400-page catalog filled with descriptions of vast quantities of electronic gear, including microphones, speakers, tape recorders, and other components.

We had Jeff the Tech go over this cool guitar completely to insure proper operating of all the components. Then he set the guitar up properly with a new set of 10 guage strings with easy playing low action. This guitar never played better. The neck is nice and fat. Comfortable however. It has a 1 ¾ inch nut so the big handed players out there will love this one…Nice fat tone from the original pickups.. Its got one bang on the top neck to the pickguard, see pic 6. Some scratches on the pickguard. After that just typical dings and scratches. Frets are in great shape.

This guitar has original everything…

Original Tuners, Pickguard, knobs, bridge, Bridge COVER!! Those are always missing..…What a cool Guitar…

These guitars did not have a Logo on the Headstock. Fortunately, our extensive access to vintage catalogs shows this model in the 1965 Catalog. Thats where we got the model number and dating of this cool guitar.

Lets talk about the really cool Gold Foil Pickup. These are always very strong. This one is no exception. They use these in Guyatone guitars as well as Audition Guitars that we know of. This one at first was not particularly strong. We had Jeff the Tech make a pickup spacer to raise it some. That made all the difference. The pickup was just too low to pickup the string vibrations properly. Now this guitar has one of the strongest Gold Foil Pickups we have had. Wow..Its very powerful and so full of tone. Prepare yourself to be impressed!

The guitar as we said, has a fat neck. Not a baseball bat neck but close. Its a handfull. The nut measures 1 3/4 inches. The neck has a 25 inch scale. It weighs almost nothing at 5 lbs 4 ozs. No truss rod but the neck is very straight. It plays great up and down the 20 frets with no fret outs or buzzes!

I couldn't believe we got the original hard shell case with this one. Very RARE! All latches work, the end one needs some fiddling as the end of the case got damp at one time, it works, just work with it. Even the key latch still works. Nice Green Interior and the accessory box is here. Even the original handle. This case is as nice as the guitar. Lucky to have it!

Beautiful but its vintage and used so it's sold as is no returns. Thanks for respecting that.
