Samba!!!
Back to the workshop for a bit, time to finish this superb Di Giorgio.
An Estudante model number 18, from 1980. Made in Brazil, Sao Paolo, the violin making is wow: one-piece Honduras mahogany neck, solid Oregon Spruce top, sides and back in Rio rosewood, and a nicely figured Rio fingerboard with a soft touch. and the grain of the ebony, bridge which seems to be made of Macassar ebony, or else a rosewood with very pronounced sapwood?
It had lost its two nuts, remade, obviously made of bone, the notch in the head nut clearly revealed an interesting feature: the presence of a metal rod embedded in the neck, under the fingerboard. Not an adjustable truss, but enough to guarantee that neck will remain straight over time.
It's beautiful, light, it sounds bright and warm, the action is 3.5mm at the octave, quite comfortable for a nylon so, on the other hand the neck is very wide, 54mm at the nut, C profile , for a scale of 640mm, the format would be more like 7/8.
There are plenty of videos of this model on the net, here is a fairly in-depth one, presentation and demonstration, which will give you good examples of its character and its sound orientations.
On-site testing welcome, as usual, shipping possible. 420€ excluding shipping. Admire, share, talk about it, enjoy it, give it a spin, thank you people
