About This Listing
Up for sale, a 1991 Gibson ES-175 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original brown tolex Gibson USA hardshell case. A striking archtop model first offered by Gibson in the 1950s, the ES-175 features a dramatic florentine cutaway, a fully hollow maple body finished in Vintage Sunburst gloss nitro lacquer, and a pair of '57 Classic PAF humbuckers.
Produced in an increasingly celebrated era of Gibson production, the ES-175 was made only in small quantities throughout the '90s. Befitting the all-maple body, the guitar has an articulate, snappy treble response, with a warm, broad tonal profile thanks to the fully hollow construction. Notes are sweet and bold, with great clarity and a touch of growl in the bridge position, and lots of meat when flipped to the neck position humbucker, perfect for smooth, mellow Jazz tonalities. The instrument weighs 7lbs 10oz, strung with 10-46 roundwound strings and professionally setup with low action and accurate intonation here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar.
Neck Specs:
-Wood: Mahogany, one-piece -Shape: Medium C, full shoulders, measuring .845" deep 1st fret, .960" 9th fret -Fretboard: Rosewood, 12” radius, split parallelogram inlay -Frets: Medium jumbo, virtually no wear -Scale Length: 24 3/4” -Nut: 1 11/16” -Tuners: Gibson Deluxe, greened keystone buttons
Body Specs:
-Wood: Maple -Pickups: ‘57 Classic PAF x2 -Controls: Volume x2, Tone x2, Three-way pickup selector -Hardware: Nashville bridge, raised diamond trapeze tailpiece -Plastics: Four-ply pickguard, black bonnet knobs, amber switch tip
The gloss two-tone Vintage Sunburst nitro lacquer finish exhibits vertical lacquer checking on top and more subtle checking on the rims, and cosmetic wear on the body is otherwise limited to just a few minor finish scratches and light marks. The neck profile retains its smooth gloss, with just one ding on the treble side of the carve behind fret 12.
The original brown tolex Gibson USA hardshell case with pink plush interior is included.
With a fully hollow body and sharp Florentine cutaway, the Gibson ES-175 stands out as an all-time iconic jazz guitar. The ES-175 has seen some variation over the years, with different pickup and hardware configurations coming in and out of the Gibson lineup. Although the ES-175 is noted as a jazz guitar, it has also been embraced by rock players like Yes' Steve Howe who has a signature model. With more contemporary models, the quality of the flame on the Maple top can increase the value.
