For decades the Starfire name has been part of the Guild lineup of semi-hollow guitars, and the their Newark Street collection is a nod to their New Jersey roots. The Newark Street Collection Starfire I is a great semi-hollow body electric that is true to its 60's roots. With its laminated Maple body and humbucker pickups, the Starfire has its own voice and stands apart from other similar semi-hollow guitars.

This is an excellent condition 2019 model with no nicks, dents or scratches.

Guild's "Golden Eras" are probably best associated with their Hoboken, NJ and Westerly, RI facilities. Guild was acquired by Fender in 1995 and production bounced around to several factories before Fender ultimately sold the brand to California-based Cordoba sometime around 2015. Cordoba -- now owned by Yamaha -- has restored the lineup to offer many of its classic, and also slightly oddball designs (such as the S-200) and the future of Guild is looking brighter than it has in years.

The Starfire I is their entry level semi-hollow and features very nice build quality and hardware. While looking much like that "other" more famous semi-hollow, the Starfire shape is subtly different with slightly more big-bottomed proportions. The Starfire sets up low, and the 24-3/4" scale length offers comfortable string tension and a fast feel.

The Starfire I comes with full-sized Alnico II humbuckers with the traditional Guild cover styling. Owing to their mild output they have good clarity, even with the flatwound strings currently on the guitar. The response is nicely percussive which is not always the case with Alnico II pickups. With such clarity and string definition, we find the split pickup option to be superfluous. The split sounds are pretty anemic and we're not sure of a situation where they would be a must-have. But in normal mode there are lots of great sounds between the two pickups, both separately and combined.

With it's excellent build quality and smooth sounding pickups the Guild Starfire I offers a package that is great for rock, pop and jazz with the unique Guild look that will set you apart from the crowd.
