I am selling US-made Fender Jazz Bass Deluxe from 1996. This is a model created in collaboration with luthier guru John Suhr, who designed the pickups and preamp. Suhr left Fender after three years and started his own company, which produces guitars for $3.5k upwards. However, his Fender babies from the so-called Suhr Era are now among the most sought-after basses on the market.
The Deluxe was at the time not only the highest of the Jazz Bass series(apart from the Custom Shop), but also a strongly innovative one. Firstly - active electronics (3-band EQ) and split-coil pickups with big magnets were Fender's answer to high-end creations by Sadowski or Mike Lull. Secondly, the Deluxe received a slightly modified shape - the body is smaller than on traditional JBs, and the neck is even slimmer. This gives both great playing comfort and lighter weight - this one weighs less than 4.2kg.
Thirdly, a number of features have been implemented that today can only be found on the most expensive Fenders: graphite neck reinforcements, a strings-thru-body bridge or solid keys with a 20:1 gear ratio. A separate mention should be made of the beautiful ash inlays on the front and back of the alder body, as well as the two extra frets - the bass has a total of 22, which is unusual for jazz basses. The build quality lives up to the name - the frets, the lacquering, the fit of the neck or pickups, absolutely everything here is truly deluxe.
It's also apparent that the guitar has been carefully handled and stored in its original hardcase for these nearly 30 years. Practically the only signs of use are microscratches on the back of the body - I made them extra visible with full light photo. The frets are holding up very well (flats have been put on for a long time), there is no patina on the hardware, the trussrod and tuners rotate smoothly. The string action is set around 1.5mm, which is very low.
I strongly encourage you to buy it, as it is a rare, well-preserved and extremely comfortable Jazz Bass made in USA with a whole range of tones.
The bass can be checked in Poznan, Poland, but I will send it by courier without any problem with shipping options to be discussed.
